The Interim Pathway for Caregivers is a time-bound pathway to permanent residence in Canada. It is an initiative launched by the government for experienced caregivers in the country. However, the window to this pathway closes after October 8, 2019, so to take advantage of the program while it is available, caregivers must work quickly.

Requirements to apply

To apply for the Interim Pathway For Caregivers, you must possess at least one year of work experience in Canada as a full-time home childcare provider or a home support worker. You must also have a valid work permit or have applied to obtain a permit in case yours has expired. 

In case your application for a permit has been refused, you will not be eligible to apply for this facility. Similarly, if you obtained work experience as a full-time student, you may not qualify for this program.

Other requirements to apply for this program are language and education. To assure the Canadian government that you have minimum language skills in English or French, you must take a language test specified by the government. This test will examine language skills like reading, writing, speaking, and listening. With regards to educational qualifications, you must have a Canadian high school diploma. A non-Canadian educational diploma, certificate, or credential that’s equal to a Canadian secondary school (or high school) diploma is also valid.
